Workshops

Center for Research and Development of Higher Education, The University of Tokyo organizes a variety of workshops addressing FD issues in both Japanese and English. While UTokyo FFP and UTokyo Global FFDP are programs for learning about FD systematically, workshops are structured based on specific topics respectively, emphasizing practice. The workshops are roughly divided into three categories as follows:

Some workshops are limited to UTokyo members, but others are open to the public. The format is either in-person, hybrid, or online, depending on the type and schedule of the workshop. Please check the details of the respective workshops. We look forward to your participation.

UTokyo FD Open

The University of Tokyo Faculty Development Open (UTokyo FD Open) is a series of workshops and sessions throughout the year, conducted entirely in English. The events address key educational topics to promote the development of teaching skills at university level. In 2023-2024, UTokyo FD Open will offer 10 events (in different formats and at different locations) addressing topics related with syllabus design, class design and microteaching, rubrics’ design, flipped classroom, peer-instruction, and the reflection around real practical cases. (Please refer to the figure.) UTokyo FD Open is open to faculty, researchers and Ph.D. students, regardless of affiliation. For most events, certificates of completion are issued. Coursera “Interactive Teaching” Real Session

“Interactive Teaching” Real Session is an in-person workshop for those who completed the course “Interactive Teaching” on Coursera. The objective of the workshop is to help participants acquire practical knowledge and experiences that would contribute to their future classes through a variety of activities, building upon what they learned in “Interactive Teaching.” Anyone who completed the course “Interactive Teaching” on Coursera is eligible to join the workshop.

Teaching Portfolio workshops

The Teaching Portfolio (TP) Workshops are occasionally held at the University. There are several kinds of workshops such as three days for TP development, one day for Teaching Statement development and two to three and a half hours for TP chart development.
