Assessment for Active Learning
Students’ active participation in classroom is a key ingredient of effective education. This workshop will introduce the idea of “active learning,” offer an opportunity to experience at first hand what it is like to implement active learning philosophies in a classroom setting, and consider how we might be able to assess student learning in courses designed on the basis of such philosophies.

Teaching Science for Life Rather Than for Careers
In this research seminar, Prof. Brickman, a specialist in science education, discusses how she developed a test to measure skills related to interpreting scientific information, and how she then redesigned her courses to provide opportunities for students to engage in scientific issues relevant to real-world situations.
